I am thrilled to announce that I have confirmed my participation in an international expedition to climb Carstensz Pyramid in October and November 2011. This will also give me the opportunity to create a photogpraphic record of the few remaining glaciers on Papua, which was one of my original expedition objectives in 2010. I will announce full details of this expedition soon.

My first expedition to Papua in late 2010 was aborted after 23 days. After long and detailed dicussions with community representatives from the Star Mountains, I decided that the 'administration fee' requested of $5,000 was too high and I was therefore unable to access Puncak Mandala on this expedition. Following this, the international agent for Carstensz Pyramid, who was paid to secure permits and manage local logistical arrangements, cancelled this leg of the trip with 3 days' notice. This was a huge disappointment after all the time and effort that I had expended to organise the expedition while working in humanitarian aid in Sudan. Nevertheless, the contacts that I had established in Papua and my understanding of the local political situation had convinced me to return to Papua in 2011. Over the next 5-10 years, I plan to organise expeditions to attempt the 3 highest peaks in North America, South America, Europe, Asia and Antarctica, which will also raise funds good causes close to my heart. I have secured support from a huge number of sources and will continue to work hard to make my planned expeditions a reality and a success.
